Priestess Yeshe is presenting on the Goddess of Love at the Conferência da Deusa in
Portugal in 2024, and is bringing a small group of adventuresome, passionate women along for an unforgettable journey! From May 9-19, we will experience the rituals, workshops, and classes at the Goddess Conference (May 10-12), and then from May 12-19, we will tour the sacred sites of Portugal. Our group will make connections with Ataegina, Cale, Our Lady of Fatima, and other Iberian and Lusitanian goddesses during our time there, studying the history of these incredible wisdom beings and experiencing them in their holy places.

Do you hear the call to join us?

Arrive Lisbon

May 9: When you arrive at the Lisbon International Airport, you will meet the rest of the group and then take the short drive to Sintra, where we will check in to our lodgings for the duration of the Conference. We are staying in a beautiful home near Quinta Ten Chi, where the Conference is held. On our first night at dinner, we will discuss the trip, unpack our goodie bags, and then get a good night’s rest after our big travel day.

Goddess Conference

May 10-12: The Portuguese Goddess Conference is a biennial event that brings together Goddess practitioners from Iberia and across the world to study the mysteries of the Great Mother. The 2024 Conference theme is Cale e Amante, and we will be exploring Goddesses of love, beauty, and joy. During our 3 days at the Conference, we will enjoy the lovely surroundings of Quinta Ten Chi, “where earth and sky meet in your heart.”

Óbidos

May 13-16: On the 13th and 14th we will explore the gorgeous estate of Quinta da Regaleira before landing in the walled citadel of Óbidos. This charming village is perched high on a hilltop and is an excellent example of medieval architecture. Óbidos was frequented by the Queens of Portugal, giving rise to its informal title as Vila das Rainhas. We will spend two days walking the ancient streets, visiting local historic sites, and soaking up the atmosphere of this town that was important to the Celts, Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, and Visigoths alike.

Fatima

May 13: During our sojourn in Óbidos, we will take a day trip to see the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. Since the 18th century, Fátima has been an international pilgrimage destination associated with events related to Marian apparitions. The first supposed apparition dates back to the mid-18th century in Ortiga, the Virgin Mary appeared to a shepherdess. In the early 20th century, a similar event took place in which three local children saw visions of a woman known as Our Lady of Fátima, an apparition of a "lady dressed in white" and shining with a bright light.

Évora

May 16-18: The incredible standing stones of Almendres Cromlech await us in Évora, a well-preserved medieval city with numerous local historic sites. Évora is on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites register, and we will explore its local history and lore. The stones of Almendres Cromlech are the largest standing menhirs of the Iberian Peninsula that date back to 6000 BCE. While in the area, we will also visit the legendary Rocha dos Namorados, or Lovers’ Rock… a large upright granite stone long associated with love and fertility magic. A perfect capstone to our journey of Cale e Amante!

Ossuary

May 17: Our time in Evora will include a visit to its famous Chapel of Bones, a 16th-century ossuary where the remains of the faithful are publicly integrated into the building. In the 16th century, there were 43 cemeteries in and around Évora. The monks decided to build the Chapel and relocate the bones with a message of contemplation carved above the door, “Nós ossos que aqui estamos, pelos vossos esperamos,” or: “We bones are here, waiting for yours.”.

The Mouras

During our journey, we will study the Mouras Encantadas of Portugal. These enchanting beings possess magical qualities associated with ancient legends and folklore. Mouras are generally linked to natural elements, ancient ruins, and mystical landscapes. Myths depict them as guardians of hidden treasures, bewitching travelers with their mesmerizing songs and ethereal beauty. The Mouras embody the cultural blend of Moorish and Christian influences in Portugal's history, revealing layers of spiritual and historical meaning.
